Field Notes

Your private competitive intelligence notebook — capture deal intel, call debriefs, and competitor observations with a rich text editor.

Field Notes is where competitive intelligence lives between analyses. After a call, at a conference, or when a colleague shares a tip — capture it in Field Notes so nothing gets lost. Notes are searchable, taggable, AI-enhanced, and organized into folders.

Available on all plans

Field Notes is available on every Rival Radar plan, including Recon (free). Team sharing requires War Room or higher.

Rich Text Editor

Field Notes includes a full rich text editor — no more plain text or raw markdown. Format your notes the way you think, with a toolbar that stays out of the way until you need it.

Formatting options

  • Text styling — Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough, Highlight, and Inline Code. Use keyboard shortcuts (⌘B, ⌘I, ⌘U) or click the toolbar.
  • Headings — H1, H2, and H3 for structuring longer notes like call debriefs or deal prep docs.
  • Lists — Bullet lists, numbered lists, and interactive task lists with checkboxes for action items.
  • Blocks — Blockquotes for quoting prospects or competitors, code blocks for technical notes, and horizontal rules for visual separation.
  • Links — Insert clickable URLs inline. Link to CRM records, competitor pages, or internal resources.
  • Undo / Redo — Full history so you never lose work accidentally.

Keyboard shortcuts

The editor supports standard shortcuts: ⌘B for bold, ⌘I for italic, ⌘U for underline, and ⌘Z / ⌘⇧Z for undo/redo.

Creating Notes

  1. 1

    Click + New Note

From the Notes page, click the green + New Note button. You can also hover to see template options for common note types.

  2. 2

    Choose a note type

Select from General, Field Intel, Call Debrief, Deal Prep, or Competitor Update. Each type has a color-coded badge for easy scanning.

  3. 3

    Write your note

Use the rich text editor to format your content. Add headings, bullet points, task lists, highlights — whatever captures the intel clearly.

  4. 4

    Tag and categorize

Add tags (comma-separated) and competitor names. Assign to a folder and set visibility (Private, Team, or Organization).

  5. 5

    Save

Click Create Note. Your note is saved and immediately searchable.

Note Types & Templates

Each note type comes with an optional pre-built template that gives you a structured starting point. Templates are fully editable in the rich text editor.

  • General — Blank note for anything. No template.
  • Field Intel — Structured format for capturing competitive observations: source, confidence level, competitor positioning, impact on deals, and recommended actions.
  • Call Debrief — Post-call capture with attendees, key takeaways, competitive mentions, next steps (as task list checkboxes), and follow-up questions.
  • Deal Prep — Pre-call battle plan with deal context, competitive landscape, positioning strategy, landmine questions, objection responses, and win strategy.
  • Competitor Update — Track changes you detect: pricing updates, product launches, positioning shifts, leadership changes, with threat level assessment and recommended response.

Folders & Organization

Keep your notes organized with folders, pins, and filters.

  • Folders — Create unlimited folders from the sidebar. Drag notes between folders or assign during creation. Rename or delete folders anytime (notes move to "No Folder").
  • Pinning — Pin important notes to the top. Use the sidebar filter to view only pinned notes.
  • Archiving — Archive old notes instead of deleting them. They're hidden from the default view but accessible via the Archive filter.
  • Tags — Add comma-separated tags for cross-cutting categorization (e.g., "pricing", "Q1-deals", "enterprise").
  • Competitor links — Tag specific competitors on each note. Notes with competitor tags surface in related analyses.

Search & Filtering

Full-text search across titles, content, tags, and competitor names. Combine with filters for precision:

  • Type filter — Show only Field Intel, Call Debriefs, etc.
  • Folder filter — Click any folder in the sidebar to scope.
  • Sort — Newest First, Oldest First, Recently Updated, or Alphabetical.
  • Bulk actions — Select multiple notes to archive, pin, move to a folder, or delete in one action.

AI-Powered Features

When editing a saved note, three AI actions are available in the editor toolbar:

  • Summarize — Generate a concise AI summary of the note's content. Useful for long call debriefs or multi-page field intel.
  • Suggest Tags — AI reads the note and suggests relevant tags and competitor names. Click Apply Suggestions to merge them into your existing tags.
  • Generate Landmines — Based on the note's content, AI generates strategic landmine questions you can use in upcoming calls.

AI works best with context

The more detail in your note, the better AI suggestions will be. A two-sentence note won't generate great landmines — but a detailed call debrief will.

Export

Export notes in two formats via the download button in the toolbar:

  • Markdown — Clean .md file, great for sharing in Slack, Notion, or docs.
  • CSV — Structured export with title, type, tags, competitors, content, and timestamps. Import into spreadsheets or CRMs.

If you have notes selected via checkboxes, only those are exported. Otherwise, all currently filtered notes are included.

Visibility & Team Sharing

  • Private — Only you can see the note. Default for all new notes.
  • Team — Visible to your team members. War Room
  • Organization — Visible to everyone in your org. War Room
